Whole School Safeguarding Update

Date: to be agreed with the host setting

Duration: Half day event - 3 hours

Venue: In house course

All staff in education are expected to undertake safeguarding training and to refresh their learning every two years. We can provide whole school safeguarding sessions to ensure that all your staff are up to date to meet government expectations and Ofsted/Independent Inspectorate requirements.

Our experienced trainers will offer them an outstanding training experience that will prepare them to meet their safeguard/pastoral care responsibilities

It is the objective of the course to ensure, through competent and interactive training, that every attendee will be confident that they understand the relevant issues associated each of these topics.

We aim that each delegate will know how to recognise abuse and be confident on the steps that need to be taken if they are concerned that anyone they meet may be at risk of harm. They will have a comprehensive awareness of the protocols and responsibilities in relation to Safeguarding and Pastoral care when working with children and young people in education.

During the course we will address the following topics:

Background to training

Making judgements

What is abuse?

Blocks and barriers to sharing concerns

What does the law say?

Understanding significant harm

A Shared Responsibility

What happens after a referral is made

Course Outcomes:

At the end of the training participants on this course will be able to:

List the categories of abuse and describe the relevant signs and indicators

State how their duty of care is managed in the context of the ‘paramouncy principle’, ‘child centered safeguarding’ and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’

Understand the background to current concerns and the impact of not acting on concerns where abuse may be taking place

Explain how personal feelings and judgements about abuse can prevent adults from listening to children and young people and block taking action when they are at risk

Identify the action to be taken when a child or young person is thought to be at risk of abuse

All participants will receive a comprehensive course pack, including resource material and a certificate of attendance. The delegate pack is not simply a set of handouts with copies of slides from a PowerPoint presentation. The pack has been carefully designed to complement the materials used on the day and is designed for participants to keep and use as a supporting resource and reference point after completing the course.

Testimonials from delegates who have attended this event:

Yesterday was brilliant - I really got a lot out of it. Thanks again

This was an excellent course mainly down to the superb way the trainer delivered it. Really excellent

Thanks as well for the session yesterday. Fascinating stuff, and somehow you managed to make the day really enjoyable (a tough call given the necessary content!)
