Understanding the Autistic Spectrum

10 may 2017, 9.00 - 13.00
central London

Current estimates conclude that 1 in 100 people in the UK suffer from some form of autism. It is a lifelong, developmental disability that affects how they communicate, how they relate to other people and their experience of the world around them. There is a spectrum of autism-related conditions and while there is no known cure our understanding has grown tremendously and there are evidence-related interventions that can assist.

Course Outcomes: Participants will have:

  • Explored the different ways in which the autistic spectrum presents
  • Considered the challenge for all those who are responsible for meeting the needs of children and young people who suffer from autism
  • Gained an updated understanding of the strategies that are available to professionals and families
  • Developed an awareness of current thinking and research and how to keep up to date with changes in practice in this area

This half-day event is for those who are involved with children and young people where autism is a factor

testimonials from delegates who have attended this event:

I will be able to support my team with more understanding of Autistic spectrum symptoms and how the system works in terms of support available

I have greater confidence in discussing management of ASD in school.

As the spectrum can be so varied it helps you to think about each individuals needs and how best you can support them. I think all teachers and support staff should do this training
